Intradiploic Meningioma in the Lateral Orbital Wall: A Case Report

Abstract: Orbital wall tumor and intradiploic meningioma are rare tumors. Magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine findings in the cases of orbital intradiploic meningioma have rarely been reported. A 46-year-old man presented with gradually appearing exophthalmos. MR and nuclear medicine findings revealed intradiploic tumor on the lateral orbital wall. The patient underwent total tumor resection and final pathological diagnosis was benign meningioma. This case highlights the importance of pathological conformati… Show more

“…They can originate from subcutaneous tissue of skin, paranasal sinus, orbit, neck, salivary gland, calvaria and along per neural sheath of cranial nerves. [ 1 2 7 ] Winkler in 1904 first described a meningioma originating from extradural location. “…Radiographically, X-ray can delineate location and its chronic pressure effect on surrounding bone. [ 2 3 5 6 7 8 10 11 ] It shows generally osteoplastic or hyperostosis reaction in the form of granular or speckled calcification which involves roof or wall of the orbit. Radiologically intradiploic meningiomas are typically either osteoplastic or osteolytic, however, mixed versions also have been reported although the majority are osteoblastic, extremely rarely are osteolytic or very extremely have a mixed pattern.…”

“…[ 4 5 6 7 ] In the past, PEM was also termed as intraosseous, diploic, cutaneous, ectopic, or extra calvarial meningioma. [ 2 3 7 8 ] In 1904, Winkler first described a meningioma originating from extradural location. [ 8 ] Till date, only four cases of PEM occurring in occipital intradiploic is reported.…”
