The Yongchun pluton is a Late Cretaceous adakitic intrusion in South Fujian Province, Southeast China, with associated metal mineralization. An understanding of the Yongchun pluton is helpful in tectono‐magmatic evolutionary processes, and is important in explaining the origin of related porphyry‐type deposits. Zircons from three samples of the pluton were analyzed by laser ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (LA–ICP–MS), yielding U–Pb ages of 99.50 ±0.87 Ma, 97.74 ±0.59 Ma, and 99.65 ±0.92 Ma. These ages are similar to those of the Sifang, Luoboling, and Sukeng plutons, all of which are related to Cu–Pb–Zn–Mo mineralization within the study area. The Yongchun pluton comprises high‐potassium, calc‐alkaline, metaluminous rocks, with average A/CNK values of 0.91, 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.705 51 to 0.706 83, εNd(t) values of −4.63 to −5.90, and two‐stage Nd model (T2DM) ages of 1.49–1.39 Ga, indicating the magmas were generated by partial melting of Mesoproterozoic continental crust mixed with mantle‐derived magmas. The pluton has geochemical characteristics typical of adakites, such as a high Sr content (average 553 ppm), and low Y (average 15.2 ppm) and Yb (average 1.61 ppm) contents, indicating that the parental magma was formed under high‐pressure conditions. The magmatism was associated with thickening of the lower crust during a change in subduction angle and convergence rate of the paleo‐Pacific Plate at 100 Ma. The compression was limited to South Fujian Province.

The Sanming pluton is the only Late Jurassic A‐type granitic intrusion in the Wuyi area, west Fujian Province, Southeast China, and its formation has important implications for our understanding of the tectonic evolution of the region. The U–Pb ages of 157 ± 1 Ma and 159 ± 1.1 Ma were obtained for the pluton by zircon LA–ICP–MS analysis, which is interpreted to be the crystallization age of the Sanming pluton (i.e., Late Jurassic). The pluton has the geochemical characteristics of A‐type granite, such as high K2O+Na2O contents (average 7.703 wt%), FeOT/(FeOT + MgO) ratios (average 0.85), and high 10,000 Ga/Al values and Zr + Nb + Ce + Y (380–446.1 ppm, average 419.2 ppm) contents, but relatively low CaO, Sr, and Eu contents. Zircon saturation temperatures range from 875 °C to 890 °C, also similar to other A‐type granites. The (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios (0.707368–0.71102) and εNd(t) and εHf(t) values (−5.54 to −6.09, and −6.93 to −1.07, respectively), the 2‐stage Nd model ages of 1.50–1.55 Ga, and 2‐stage Hf model ages of 1.25–1.62 Ga, suggest the pluton was derived by extensive fractionation of melts containing both mantle materials and Mesoproterozoic crustal components. The Sanming A‐type granitic pluton is younger than adakitic rocks in the region (162 Ma), suggesting a localized transition from compressional to intraplate extensional tectonics at 162–159 Ma, with mantle‐derived material playing a crucial role in the formation of A‐type granites in the Wuyi Mountain area. This tectonic transition is explained by localized rollback of the subducting Pacific plate.

Zircon U-Pb data indicate that Cretaceous magmatism in Fujian Province occurred in two pulses, with the Xiyang, Yangshan, Wuci, Dehua, Juzhou, and Xiandu plutons emplaced between 147 ± 1 and 126 ± 1 Ma and the Hutou and Guangqiao plutons emplaced at 109 ± 1 Ma. Combining these previously published ages with the new data obtained during this study indicates that the magmatism in the study area occurred in two distinct stages at 145-125 and 110-100 Ma, both have I-type characteristics. The earlier I-type granites are characterized by relatively high concentrations of SiO 2 (mean = 75.73 wt.%) and low concentrations of MgO (mean of 0.21 wt.%) and are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous (mean A/CNK = 1.03). They contain relatively high total rare-earth element (ΣREE) concentrations (mean of 139.3 ppm) with well-developed Eu anomalies and are relatively enriched in the large-ion lithophile elements (LILE) and the light REE (LREE) but depleted in Ba, Sr, P, Ti, Nb, and Ta. In contrast, the younger I-type granites contain lower concentrations of SiO 2 (mean of 67.63 wt.%), higher concentrations of MgO (mean of 1.47 wt.%), and are metaluminous to weakly peraluminous (mean A/CNK = 0.96). They also have moderate REE values (mean of 150.26 ppm) without significant Eu anomalies and are relatively enriched in LREE, Rb, Th, U, K, Sr, and Pb and depleted in Nb, Ta, P, Ti, Y, and Yb. The two-stage Nd model ages (T 2DM ) of Cretaceous granites are 1.46 to 1.88 Ga (mean of 1.57 Ga) and 1.16-1.60 Ga (mean of 1.36 Ga), respectively. The two-stage Hf model ages (T 2DM ) of Cretaceous gran-ites are 1.19-1.82 Ga (mean of 1.54 Ga) and 0.46-1.20 Ga (mean of 0.91 Ga), respectively. It is likely that the earlier I-type granites were derived from magmas generated by the partial melting of Mesoproterozoic metabasaltic material, whereas the later I-type granites were derived from magmas generated by partial melting of a mixed lithology containing Mesoproterozoic to Neoproterozoic metabasaltic to metatonalitic rocks that were underplated by medium-to high-K basaltic magmas. A geological comparison between south-western Fujian Province and adjacent areas indicates that the earlier I-type granites were emplaced in a compressional environment associated with the subduction of the paleo-Pacific Plate at 145-125 Ma. In contrast, the later I-type plutons are associated with intraplate extension accompanied by the post-subduction slab roll-back of the paleo-Pacific Plate. The two magmatic stages represent a transition from compressional to intraplate extensional tectonics between 125 and 110 Ma, with mantle-derived material playing a crucial role in the formation of the I-type granites.
