Background: Shifting the educational system from a traditional to an online context during COVID-19 necessitated several considerations to assure students’ satisfaction with e-learning. Aim: This study aims to explore the factors influencing students’ satisfaction with e-learning during the COVID-19 crisis. In particular, it tests multiple mediations, student factors, and system quality between students’ satisfaction and each course evaluation and instructor’s performance. Methodology: In this cross-sectional study, 258 undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in online courses at multiple Malaysian universities were recruited using non-probabilistic purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire that assessed four factors that influenced students’ satisfaction with e-learning during the COVID-19 crisis (i.e., instructor performance, course evaluation, student factors, and system quality) and analyzed using the partial least squares route structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Results: The results indicated that the four factors were significantly associated with students’ satisfaction with e-learning during COVID-19. Student factors and system quality were the most factors predicting students’ satisfaction with e-learning. Findings indicate statistically significant relationships between the instructor’s performance, student factors, course evaluation, and system quality on students’ satisfaction. Furthermore, the results depict that both course evaluation and system quality serially mediate the relationship between instructors’ performance and students’ satisfaction. Conclusion: This study finds that improving and enhancing student factors and system quality is critical for students’ satisfaction with e-learning. Furthermore, e-learning platforms should contain new advances of computer-mediated technologies that enable collaboration, which is a critical factor in the success of e-learning systems.

Aim/Background: Pharmacy educators often incorporate electronic learning or e-learning to facilitate learning among pharmacy students. E-learning can be designed based on the Social Constructivism Theory (SCT). The learning outcomes of e-learning that is developed based on the SCT should be assessed continuously and they should include the evaluation of students' perceptions on the Social Constructivist Learning Environment (SCLE) of their e-learning. The present study aims to investigate pharmacy students' expectations for their e-learning and evaluate the extent to which e-learning fulfils their expectations. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among the second-and third-year undergraduate pharmacy students in a Malaysian Public University to assess the students' perceptions on the SCLE of two e-learning components offered in two core courses: Principle of Pathology (PP) and Pharmaceutical Care (PC) using the Constructivist Online Learning Environment Survey (COLLES). Results: All students who were invited to participate in the study responded to the survey (response rate = 100%, n = 336). In general, students had positive but moderate expectations and satisfaction towards e-learning. Students mostly expected e-learning to be relevant to their professional practice. The second-year PP students were satisfied with their e-learning, but the third year PC students rated their experience to be lower than their expectations. Conclusion: As a conclusion, although e-learning that was developed based on the SCT can resulted in SCLE, the expectations of the third-year pharmacy students were harder to fulfil compared to their younger counterparts. This warrants innovation in e-learning content and processes for the third-year students.

E-learning Courses Satisfaction in Higher Education from Participants’ Perspective

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to evaluate usefulness of distance learning courses as a form of learning from participants’ perspective. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: To achieve the purpose, two research methods have been employed: literature review, including rules and regulations concerning distance learning courses, and analysis of the results of a survey conducted among students participating in distance learning course as well as own observations and experiences. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: In the paper it is analysed, how students perceiveelearning courses comparing to traditional ones. First, selected Polish Minister of Higher Education and the Senate of Cracow University of Economics (CUE) regulations under which CUE teachers may conduct distance learning courses are presented. Second, the procedure for the preparation of elearning courses at CUE is described. The roles played by individual actors during the preparation of the course are discussed. Next, selected results of the survey conducted among course participants are presented. Finally, conclusions and observations are discussed. Results of the survey confirm that e-learning is a promising type of teaching supporting traditional lessons. RESEARCH RESULTS: Aconsiderable number of participants found this kind of didactic proces useful and attractive. However, an unexpectedly large number stated that they expected more traditional lessons. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The analysis allows to draw interesting conclusions concerning the necessity of selection of participants, problem of systematic work, methods of evaluation, personal contact with a teacher, preparation of teaching materials. All of them will be taken under consideration to improve the course for future participants.
