Small mammalian carnivores are playing various important roles in ecosystems by influencing the structure of ecosystem and also providing various ecosystem services. In the present study, the major categories of threats faced by small carnivores were reviewed. This study revealed that biological resource use and land use change are the leading threats for small carnivores. These species need great concern globally, particularly in Southeast Asia and Madagascar. This review has encouraged research and constant monitoring of current status which will be helpful in conservation of small carnivores in future.

This article aims to analyze the relationship between state and illegality which taking place at the center, namely in Jakarta. The study becomes significant for examining how mechanisms and relations of non-state and state actors occur. Many ethnographic studies of illegal activities, such as gold mining, logging, and fishing show that such businesses take place on the periphery or border where the state has weak control over such places. Data is conducted by literature study and short field observations.Our case studies of illegal trade in the bird market in Jakarta will question the Weberian perspective which defines the state as a legal and rational institution that will always enforce control in its territory. In this article, we consider the state as a relational arena where it is possible for various actors, both non-state and state actors, to participate in illegal activities through contestations or collaboration to achieve their respective interests or goals.

The hunting and consumption of wildlife is a global practice with practices that are socially nested, mediated, and shared across social categories, including gender. Research into wildlife trade increasingly recognizes the importance of understanding and investigating social drivers and processes of hunting and consumption. However, studies of social norms, motivations, and actions specific to women are still lacking within wildlife trade literature, particularly within Southeast Asia. Women are central to how a society operates and to societal practices, and they are fundamental actors in initiating change in these practices. In Southeast Asia, women are especially powerful actors within resident matrilineal and bilateral societies. This article will reflect on wildlife trafficking through the roles and activities of women. While women’s narratives are lacking across all current wildlife trade research, I will highlight in this article critical research gaps, gender-specific issues in methodology, and important research opportunities.
