Dynamics of dust particles in the glow discharge stratum in crossed E × B field

Abstract: In this work, the dynamic behaviour of micron‐sized dust particles suspended in the glow discharge stratum at low pressure in the crossed magnetic and electric fields was experimentally studied. The observations showed that the dust particles move in the direction opposite to the ExB drift with increasing magnetic field induction. When the magnetic field induction reaches a threshold point (B > 10 mT), the dust particles begin to rotate, forming pair of counter‐rotating vortex in the horizontal plane. It wa… Show more

“…In weakly magnetized dusty plasma, only electrons are magnetized but ions are either unmagnetized or partially magnetize at low B-field. A wide range of theoretical as well experimental work on weakly magnetized dusty plasma such as waves and instabilities, [44,45] self-organized waves in annular radio-frequency (rf) discharge, [46] nonlinear vertical oscillation of dust grains, [47] localized solitary waves, [48] oblique propagating dust acoustic solitary waves, [49] and dust cluster rotation [24,50,51] is conducted by various research groups.…”
