Mobile ad-hoc networks are wireless self-organized networks in which mobile nodes can connect directly to each other. This fact makes such networks highly susceptible to security risks and threats, as malicious nodes can easily disguise as new trusted nodes and start attacking the network after a certain period of time. Hence, the security of data transmission in MANET has been a hot topic in the past years. Several research works attempted to detect and stop various attacks on MANET nodes and packets. This paper presents an efficient mechanism for secure data dissemination in MANETs. Our approach is based on the identity based cryptography and Message Authentication Code (MAC). The proposed security mechanism prevents malicious nodes from tampering or replaying intermediate packets by means of signing and encrypting the packet at each intermediate trusted node. We tested the efficiency of our system using the ns2 simulator by comparing it to a similar security mechanism. The simulations illustrate that our approach obtains many advantages over other existing approaches for secure data dissemination in MANETs.

A Mobile Ad-Hoc Network (MANET) facilitates communication between nodes whenever & wherever required without any fixed infrastructure. Due to its self-configuring nature, arbitrary topology is formed through wireless links. Such type of Ad-Hoc networks are required at battlefield, rescue operations, during disaster management etc. Although this technology gives a broad range of application in critical conditions, it has its own lacunas. Most importantly, security is the basic issue in this communication mode due to dynamicity of nodes. To ensure secure communication, various types of cryptographic & trust based models have been put forwarded. However, cryptographic methods are not feasible due to intensive computation & low infrastructure network(MANET). Hence trust based models have come in to the existence. The present study includes review on various trust models, with their protocols, advantages & challenges.

Mobile Ad hoc Networks are being adopted in more and more applications in our daily life. Mobile computing and mobile ad hoc networks in particular have become a daily need. As mobile ad hoc networks have been target for many attacks, the security of these networks has become an essential part of their existence. This paper provides a review of the current threats and how these threats are mitigated. The paper also discusses common attacks on mobile ad hoc networks and classifies these attacks in various classification types. The paper also discusses various countermeasures to mitigate the risks of attacks.
