Dynamic self-adaptation for distributed service-oriented transactions

Abstract: Dynamic software adaptation addresses software systems that need to change their behavior during execution. To address reuse in dynamic software adaptation, software adaptation patterns, also referred to as software reconfiguration patterns, have been developed. A software adaptation pattern defines how a set of components that make up an architecture or design pattern dynamically cooperate to change the software configuration to a new configuration given a set of adaptation commands. This paper describes a dy… Show more

“…Gomaa and Hashimoto, in the context of the SASSY research project [12], look into software adaptation patterns for Service-Oriented Applications. The goal is to dynamically adapt distributed transactions at run-time, separating the concerns of individual components of the architecture from concerns of dynamic adaptation, using a connector adaptation state-machine.…”

“…For example, Gomaa et al [14] introduces the concept of "software adaptation patterns" and specifies how they can be used in software adaptation of service-oriented architectures. However, they do not give a complete overview of their use.…”

“…Menasce et al [15], [16] proposed a model-driven framework (SASSY) for runtime self-architecting of distributed service-oriented software systems. This framework automatically generates candidate software architectures and selects the one that best serves stakeholder-defined, scenario-based quality-of-service (QoS) goals.…”
