The emerging field of nanotechnology aims at revolutionizing the industrial world via introducing nanobased material for coloring. In particular, silica-based colorant nanoparticles for coloring were developed, which show extraordinary performance in the coloring world with a self-fixing property. In this regard, the use of a nano-based prefunctionalized colorant, which possesses a perfect framed structure, is unexplored in the coloring world especially in leather coloring along with stabilization. Herein, we report the inclusion of an organic cationic colorant into silica matrices by a simple emulsion technique in an aqueous condition. Unique photophysical properties displayed by the colorant enable the development of a newer coloring method and excellent resistance to high optical and thermal conditions. In addition, the newer system does not require any pretreatment like acidification for fixing the colorant with a minimum amount of water usage. It penetrates and fixes into the matrix without any need of coloring auxiliaries, thereby cutting in half the environmental pollution load. Excellent stability from the new method of the silica-functionalized coloring system will not only reduce the environmental burden but also make the coloring process sustainable. It also highlights some noteworthy recent avenues in using nanometer-sized materials as coloring agents for processing fibrous matrices and also in coloring cellulose in textiles, keratin in hair dyeing, and emulsion in the paint industry. Finally, the developed nanoparticles containing silica-based colorant with superior coloring properties forms an important area of research with significant prospects for coloring applications.

This paper reports the oxidation of Remazol black B dye by employing iron ions catalyst based gas diffusion cathodes, (GDCs). A GDC was synthesized by using a layer of carbon black and iron ions catalyst for oxygen reduction to hydrogen peroxide. The results demonstrated around 97% decolorization of Remazol black-B dye for 50 min by iron ions catalyst based GDC. The degradation study was performed under electrogenerated hydrogen peroxide at a constant voltage of − 0.6 V vs Hg/HgSO4 in which the rate of degradation was correlated with hydrogen peroxide production. Overall, the GDC’s found to be effective method to degrade the dyes via electro-Fenton.

Semiconductor nanomaterials with proper band edge alignments forming “heterostructure” assemblies have significant importance in water splitting, dye degradation, and other electrochemical studies. The formed heterojunction between material phases facilitates fast charge carrier transport and, thereby, improves electrochemical performance in associated processes. Herein, we report a type-II heterostructure combining TiO2 and ZnO nanomaterials for electrochemical crystal violet dye degradation studies. The rationale in choosing the above materials (TiO2, ZnO) in the present study includes stability, lack of toxicity, and high oxidation power, but they also facilitate fast charge carrier movements due to proper band edge alignments, forming a type-II heterostructure assembly. Cyclic voltammetry, combined with ultraviolet-visible analysis, was used to identify the cathodic and anodic peak currents and trace the exact mechanism of dye degradation. The electro-catalytic performance of TiO2/ZnO heterostructured materials fabricated on titania (Ti) substrate show higher performance, in comparison to all individual material interfaces, due to synergistic interaction and synchronized charge transport.
