Dusty Plasma Structures in Magnetic DC Discharges

Abstract: Key words Dusty (complex) plasmas, dusty plasmas structures, magnetic field, ion drag force, plasmas magnetization. PACS 52.27.LwResults are described of experiments in studying the effect of magnetic field on dusty plasma structures in dc discharges. The levitation of dust particles in vertically oriented dc discharges is possible either in the vicinity of the flat surface of cathode (or of special additional electrode) or in an electrostatic trap which forms at the striation head during the stratification of… Show more

“…Our paper is motivated by the recent attention given to dusty plasma behavior under magnetic field [32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40]. This attention is driven by experiments, which have only recently begun.…”

“…One of the directions for the subject study is investigation of the influence of the magnetic field on the plasma-dust structures formed in the striation of DC discharge. Also, the inverse rotation of plasma-dust structures in a magnetic field was found [1][2][3][4][5].…”

“…In weak magnetic fields the dust structure rotates counterclockwise, and as the field increases it rotates in opposite direction. This mechanism of the rotation inversion has been presented in our paper [5]. However, it would be significant for rather large bulk structures, absorbing mainly the radial plasma flux.…”
