There has been a long partnership in the materials science of building materials between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States and the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM). This paper discusses on the technical contributions NIST has made to RILEM, focusing on the articles published in Materials and Structures, whose 50-year anniversary is being celebrated in this issue. Since 1968, NIST has had a name change and a building materials division was formed, merged, and renamed since the 1970s, while RILEM has stayed constant in its name and organization, although its technical committee structure is purposely fluid. Many NIST personnel have contributed to the partnership between RILEM and NIST in more than one material type. This overview briefly covers these areas.

The operating conditions of a number of reinforced concrete structures used in agricultural production cause the need of taking into account the chloride corrosion to analyze their long-term operation strength. Under the influence of chloride corrosion, the destruction of concrete and corrosion of metal reinforcement appear and lead to a change in the stress-strain state of the reinforced structures and to their durability reduction. In the presented work, the mathematical model of the elastically based reinforced concrete plate under the influence of chloride corrosion is presented as a fourth-order nonlinear differential equation in partial derivatives. The effect of concrete degradation on the stress-strain state of the structure was implemented by a technique involving a method of successive parameter perturbations to solve the nonlinear part of the problem and the grid method for solving the boundary part of the problem. There was developed a program that allows to analyze the behavior of the reinforced plate under the action of chloride corrosion on one or both surfaces of the plate. The algorithm of the program allows to change the boundary conditions, reinforcement parameters, direction, concentration and chlorides’ penetration velocity. There was analyzed the change in the stress-strain state of the reinforced plate over time for one of the possible variants of chloride corrosion pattern. On the basis of the computational results’ analysis it was demonstrated how the durability curve changes due to the action of chloride corrosion.

Предмет исследования: исследования проводились в области производства ячеистого армированного бетона автоклавного твердения (газобетона). В качестве исходных данных представлены совместные экспериментальные исследования по подбору армирующего материала предприятий, выпускающих газобетон (г. Электросталь) и композитную арматуру (г. Псков). Цель: задача исследования сводится к подбору альтернативного металлической арматуре материала, который позволит снизить технологический цикл изготовления армированных ячеистобетонных изделий, будет способствовать облегчению конструкции и увеличит жизненный цикл изделия. Материалы и методы: рассматривается использование композитной арматуры, изготовленной с применением различных отвердителей (ангидридного и алифатического амина), влияющих на поведение композита в среде ячеистого автоклавного бетона (щелочная среда реакции, условия повышенной термостойкости). Результаты: результаты выполненных исследований показали существование возможности замены армирующих элементов при производстве ячеистого автоклавного газобетона. Выводы: на основании проведенных испытаний было принято решение продолжить лабораторные исследования на предмет термостойкости композитной арматуры с применением аминного отвердителя в среде ячеистого бетона автоклавного твердения. Подобная работа была проведена впервые, являясь ценной для усовершенствования существующей технологии производства армированного газобетона.
