Dual‐Scheimpflug‐Placido‐disc corneal analysis in cats

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the corneal topography and tomography of cats using a dual Scheimpflug and Placido disc device.Animal studied: Sixteen mixed-breed cats (32 eyes).Procedure(s): Cats were sedated using meperidine (4.3 mg/kg/IM) and xylazine (0.5 mg/kg/IM), and evaluated using the software Galilei™. Values assessed included anterior and posterior corneal curvature, total corneal power, and corneal thickness. Results: Ten males and six females aged between 18 and 48 months were evaluated. The simulated kerat… Show more

“…There are many devices available in clinical practice for measuring corneal pachymetry and keratometry 8–11 . In cats, corneal thickness has been measured using optical pachymetry, 12 ultrasonic pachymetry, 13–17 ultrasonic biomicroscopy, 18,19 specular microscopy, 17 optical coherence tomography, 20,21 single Scheimpflug device (Pentacam‐HR), 20 and dual Scheimpflug device (Galilei) 22 . Keratometry has been described in cats using a keratometer 18,23,24 and Galilei 22 …”

“…[8][9][10][11] In cats, corneal thickness has been measured using optical pachymetry, 12 ultrasonic pachymetry, [13][14][15][16][17] ultrasonic biomicroscopy, 18,19 specular microscopy, 17 optical coherence tomography, 20,21 single Scheimpflug device (Pentacam-HR), 20 and dual Scheimpflug device (Galilei). 22 Keratometry has been described in cats using a keratometer 18,23,24 and Galilei. 22 There are studies in medical ophthalmology comparing simulated keratometry (SimK) and central corneal thickness (CCT) measured by different devices in order to support specific interpretations for each system, but studies like these are lacking in veterinary ophthalmology.…”
