Dual-Polarized Communication Rectenna Array for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transmission

Abstract: A dual-polarized communication rectenna array with high isolation and low cross polarization for simultaneous wireless information and power transmission (SWIPT) is presented. It consists of a 2 × 2 element receiving antenna array and a high efficiency rectifier based on voltage doubler topology. The receiving element is corner-fed to achieve high isolation of more than 20 dB between the dual-polarized ports, which guarantees low mutual interference between the communication and the rectifying ports. To receiv… Show more

“…For port 2, when P in was 15 dBm and R Load was 365 Ω, the maximum measured conversion efficiency was 76.4% at 5.8 GHz. A comparison is shown in Table 1, between this study and the existing literature [2,3,12,15,16]. Our design has the characteristics of wide bandwidth and high efficiency, which makes it a candidate for current microwave wireless power transmission.…”

“…Currently, wireless power transmission is a research hotspot in the field of an intelligent Internet of Things (IoT), because microwave wireless energy transmission can transmit power to electronic systems or devices, particularly in some special scenarios where electrical energy cannot be provided via cables [1][2][3][4]. Wireless energy transmission has many potential applications.…”

“…Similarly, the broadband rectennas, [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] frequency reconfigurable rectenna, 17 and a rectangular patch rectenna 18 with a wide input power range are reported. The aforementioned rectennas are useful only for the collection of ambient microwave power and converting the received power into electricity (dc).In addition to this, a dual-port printed rectenna 19 for energy harvesting and data communication, a dualpolarized rectenna array, 20 electrically small Huygens rectenna for SWIPT, 21 are reported recently. However, these designs operate only at the single band frequency.…”

“…The aforementioned prototypes are useful only for the collection of ambient microwave power and convert the received power into electricity (DC). In addition to this, printed aperture coupled and Huygens antennas with dual ports and two individual feed lines, out of which one for energy harvesting and the other for data communication, are reported in [20][21][22], but these designs are found to be complex with two substrates, and also these antennas operate only at single and dual-band frequencies. A new antenna to overcome all the above problems is desirable for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) applications with a new configuration.…”

“…The proposed new configuration reveals that the antenna transfers the received radiofrequency power to the input port of the diplexer for the separation of two different frequencies through two different ports, one for communication and the other for wireless power transmission. Unlike [20][21][22], the proposed antenna possesses a single port, single substrate, and wide bandwidth of 12.5 GHz. Unlike [26][27][28][29][30], the proposed compact diplexer has an advantage of simple design, easy fabrication, and flexible integration to other devices.…”
