Dual-Function Mixed-Lanthanide Metal–Organic Framework for Ratiometric Water Detection in Bioethanol and Temperature Sensing

Abstract: In order to accurately and conveniently measure temperature and water content in bioethanol, a dual-function ratiometric luminescence sensor has been fabricated successfully based on mixed lanthanide metal− organic frameworks (MOFs) Eu 0.02 Dy 0.18 -MOF. In this MOF, the two lanthanides and ligand (H 4 L) form three luminescence centers, and they have different sensitivity toward water and temperature. Using the ratio of luminescence intensity at 416 and 614 nm, the MOF could quantitatively determine the conce… Show more

“…MOFs are porous materials with high specific surface area which is achieved based on the coordination interactions between metal cations (clusters or secondary building units) and organic ligands (linkers) via coordinative bonds [ 5 ]. They have arouse great interest principally due to their versatility, diverse structures, tunable porosity and specific surface area, ease of functionalization, unsaturated metal sites, and also biocompatibility [ 6 ]. Among the MOFs, copper-based MOFs particularly draw great attention because they can be synthesized with available commercially reagents and possess high surface area [ 7 ].…”

“…In the literature, a mixed Eu/Dy MOF was recently reported to show a sensitive response to water (LOD = 0.10%). 43 Fu and co-workers also reported a Cd-MOF with a water detection limit less than 0.01%. 44 However, combining the advantages of ultrafast scale-up synthesis, low cost of materials and energy, short detection time (30 s) and low LOD values, the water detection method reported here is of high practical application value.…”
