“…Thymoquinone (TQ, or 2‐isopropyl‐5‐methyl‐1,4‐benzoquinone) is the main bioactive component of the medical plant Nigella sativa , which is commonly known as black seeds and is a member of the botanical family Ranunculaceae. This plant grows in the Middle East, Central Europe, and Western Asia, and it has been traditionally used for over 2000 years for the prevention and treatment of myriad diseases such as inflammation, asthma, hypertension, gastrointestinal conditions, and skin irritations . The seeds of N. sativa contain fixed and essential (volatile) oils, proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates, alkaloids, organic acids, saponins, crude fibers, vitamins, and minerals .…”

“…Encapsulation of paclitaxel and thymoquinone within a CH-NP resulted in effective breast cancer therapy. 17 CH-NP increases the immune response by not only elevating the IgG, IgA and IgM but also the IL-2, Il-4 and IL-6 as observed in murine model. 4 As mentioned earlier the wide range of therapeutic significance is mainly due to the modification of CH-NP within the tumor microenvironment.…”

“…These results are in line with Abdel-Mottaleb et al (2016) who postulated that synthesized NPs could arrest breast cancer cells migration with efficient reduction in tumour volume, lengthening the lifetime of treated mice. Moreover, the most efficiency of TQ as an antineoplastic candidate is its capability to involve in tumour cells' proliferation with minor or no impact on the healthful cells (Soni et al, 2015) and the release of TQ from AuNPs aggregating into cancer masses will reduce normal tissue exposure interrupting the fast metabolism of the treated drug (Levy et al, 2010;SchneiderStock et al, 2014).…”

“…However, safety and protective property of TQ would be enhanced by its encapsulation onto NPs raise TQ metabolism in rats with marked hepato-protective activity against cirrhosis and inhibitory activity on the proliferation of hepatic stromal cells (HSCs) that may be due to the overall anti -fibrotic and anti-proliferative effects of TQ in vivo and it has inhibitory effect on tumour cells proliferation with slight or no risk on the healthy tissues (Soni et al, 2015) reducing drug toxicity and its adverse effects without affecting on efficacy. Combination of cisplatin with herbal agent-loaded AuNPs resulted in the hindrance of histopathological damage in liver and played a role in the capabilit y to specifically target tumour sites accumulating in them and increase drug bioavailability due to poor vasculatures and lymphatic drainage in tumour burdens (Duan et al, 2010).…”
