Dual-Channel-Based Mobile Ad Hoc Network Routing Technique for Indoor Disaster Environment

Abstract: The existing network infrastructure may not work well in a disaster environment caused by a fire or an earthquake. Instead of relying on the existing infrastructure, communicating through a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is recommended because MANET can configure a network without an infrastructured communication system. In addition, firefighters conducting emergency activities in harsh environments surrounded by flames and smoke need a communication system to assist their rapid firefighting operations. Existin… Show more

“…In the context of dual-channel-based MANETs, authors in [137] recently introduced an algorithm for efficient routing, since each node is able to configure the routing table based on the exchanged neighbor list. The main application suggested for this work is indoor communications for firefighters, especially since previous works do not consider the mobility of the nodes properly,…”

“…In 2020 Kim et al [27] proposed a MANET locationbased routing scheme by applying dual channels known as sub-GHz and 2.4 GHz channels for the indoor disaster scenario. This paper studied and proposed a new scheme with concerns to the firefighter communications as the indoor disaster environment were not being considered in the previous researches.…”

“…Although with the notice of such impacts, researchers mainly focus on designing mechanisms to deal with weak links [8][9][10][11] and propose evaluation model for wireless multi-hop network. 12 The power control method, 13 artificial intelligence (AI)-based link quality prediction, 14,15 softwaredefined networking (SDN) 16 architecture, and multichannel mechanism 17 are applied to deal with the weak link problems and good results have been achieved. However, the innate characters and how the weak links affect the topology discovery are seldom researched.…”
