“…When implanted into the median eminence, clomiphene citrate caused increased LH concentrations in the pituitary and plasma (Igarashi, Ibuki, Kubo, Hamioka, Yokata, Ebara & Matsumoto, 1967). Thus, clomiphene citrate may be regarded as an oestrogenic substance of low intrinsic activity, but with a high affinity for the oestrogen receptors of the hypothalamus and pituitary (Dikstein & Sulman, 1966). It can therefore be expected that very small doses stimulate gonadotrophin secretion by interfering with the negative feedback of oestrogen in the hypothalamus.…”
