“…Most studies included an adult population, with the exception of one study with an age range of 14–19 years (Molteni et al, 2014 ). Several studies on the factors associated with medication adherence enrolled participants at early stage of illness (first episode of psychosis, recent onset of psychosis) (Coldham et al, 2002 ; Mutsatsa et al, 2003 ; Kahn et al, 2008 ; Quach et al, 2009 ; Weiden et al, 2012 ; Molteni et al, 2014 ; Winton-Brown et al, 2017 ). In addition, a change toward more positive attitudes (Mohamed et al, 2009 ) was correlated with greater medication adherence.…”

“…60 A study on adolescents, all treated with antipsychotics, assessed their subjective experience with medication with the “Drug Attitude Inventory” and found that a change to more positive medication attitudes was associated with significantly greater medication adherence, decreases in psychopathology, and improvement in functioning. 61 To achieve this change in patient attitude, it is essential to include psychoeducation in the treatment program, to teach patients about their illness, medication and adverse effects, and relapse prevention. 19…”
