Drivers and Indicators of Performance in Relief Chain: An Empirical Study

Abstract: Relief and rehabilitation is an important component of disaster management. Success of this humanitarian intervention is dependent upon a combination of factors; logistics is among the important ones. The purpose of this article is to discuss key drivers of performance while managing disaster relief logistics. This research uses two-stage research designs. The first stage incorporates exploratory research through interviews with experts and focus group discussions. In the second stage, a survey was conducted a… Show more

“…For example, Van der Laan et al (2009), Pettit and Beresford (2009), Chandraprakaikul (2010), Blecken (2010), Abidi et al (2014), Bag (2016), Nurmala et al (2017), and Banomyong et al (2019) conducted the literature review to identify the performance measurement system in context of HSC. However, many researchers (Idris et al, 2014;Bardhan and Dangi, 2016;Tuffa, 2016;Najjar et al, 2018) have tried to measure the HSC performance using various statistical techniques such as ANOVA, Regression Analysis, and Structural Equation Model.…”

“…Various factors (internal and external) are responsible for successful implementation of HSC performance management. Internal factors are: leadership and top management commitment (Pettit and Beresford, 2009; De Leeuw, 2010; Kovács et al , 2012; Bardhan and Dangi, 2016; Rajakaruna et al , 2017), availability of appropriate training (Van Wassenhove, 2006; Kovács and Tatham, 2009; Maon et al , 2009; Holguín-Veras et al , 2012; De Leeuw, 2010), availability of appropriate information and communication systems (Pettit and Beresford, 2005, 2009; Kovács and Spens, 2009; Zhou et al , 2011; Li et al , 2014) and ethical and cultural aspects of a country (McLachlin et al , 2009; Wild and Zhou, 2011; Kovács et al , 2012; Marie Allen et al , 2013; Rajakaruna et al , 2017). External factors are: coordination of humanitarian organizations (Maon et al , 2009; Scholten et al , 2010; Nagurney and Qiang, 2012; Holguín-Veras et al , 2012) and media (Van Wassenhove, 2006); it will have a well-built impact on the disaster relief operation.…”

“…The attempt by Kanso and Nelson (2002) to define advertising standardization by a firm in terms of the proportion of the time spent on the strategy seems inconclusive. For example, Onkvisit and Shaw (1989), Kumar and Pathak (2016), and Bardhan and Dangi (2016) have rightly pointed out that advertisement qualifies for standardization only when it is put into practice across countries. Harris (1994) pointed out that the concern pertaining to advertising standardization issue is that it revolves around the process of fostering and analysing relationships and whether advertising can be standardized or not.…”
