Drawing and ultimate tensile properties of modified polyamide 6 fibers

Abstract: The drawing and ultimate tensile properties of the modified PA 6 (MPA) fiber specimens prepared at varying drawing temperature were systematically investigated, wherein the MPA resins were prepared by reactive extrusion of PA 6 with the compatibilizer precursor (CP). At any fixed drawing temperature, the achievable draw ratio (D ra ) values of MPA as-spun fiber specimens increase initially with increasing CP contents, and then approach a maximum value, as their CP contents are close to the 5 wt% optimum value.… Show more

“…PA6 bre is the second most produced synthetic bre and has wide applications. [1][2][3][4][5] However, similar to most polymers, poor ame retardancy is one of the drawbacks of neat PA6. 6 To meet the strict re safety requirements in some elds, such as electrical appliances, and textiles for curtains and carpets which are used at home and on planes, it is necessary to improve the ame retardancy of PA6, especially for PA6 bres.…”

“…The engineering materials polyamides have been widely used for their advantages. As being used in many ways, modifying polyamides to improve the properties is necessary . In recent years, organic–inorganic composites especially the composites interface between inorganic particles and based polymer have gained much attention for their versatility by changing the inorganic materials and based polymer .…”

“…As a consequence, the drawn NY6 fibers spun with the proper amounts of crystallization inhibitors exhibit significantly higher tenacity values than the drawn NY6 fibers without crystallization inhibitors. Our recent investigation [10] prepared modified nylon 6 (MPA) resins by reactive extrusion nylon 6 resins with compatibilizer precursors (CP) to improve their molecular lengths and drawing properties. The achievable draw ratio and ultimate tenacity values of the MPA fiber specimens were found to improve significantly with the increase in CP contents and reach the maximum value, as their CP contents approach the 5 wt% optimum value.…”
