Downhole Magnetic Logging in Sediments during Leg 145: Usefulness and Magnetostratigraphic Interpretation of the Logs at Site 884

Abstract: Downhole magnetic logging of sediments was conducted at two sites during Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 145 in the North West Pacific Ocean. Two different tools were used: a total field magnetometer (nuclear resonance magnetometer tool) using the overhauser effect and a susceptibility magnetic tool, based on the mutual induction of two coils caused by the surrounding rock susceptibility. Both tools have been developed through a cooperation between Total, CEA-LETI (a division of the French Commissariat à 1'
