Donor-π-Conjugated Spacer-Acceptor Dye-Sensitized Solid-State Solar Cell Using CuI as the Hole Collector

Abstract: Dye-sensitized solid-state solar cells (DSSCs) replacing the liquid electrolyte with a p-type semiconductor have been extensively examined to solve the practical problems associated with wet-type solar cells. Here, we report the fabrication of a solid-state solar cell using copper iodide (CuI) as the hole conductor and alkyl-functionalized carbazole dye (MK-2) as the sensitizer. A DSSC sensitized with MK-2 showed a solar-to-electrical power conversion efficiency of 3.33% with a Voc of 496 mV and a Jsc of 16.14… Show more

“…74,75 This illustrates the absorption spectrum is in good agreement owing to π-π interaction with the MK-2 dye molecules adsorbed on TiO 2 electrode with PGE and I À /I 3 À redox couple. 76 The PGE (J59) reveals the highest IPCE maximum value of 22.42% at (350 nm) and 28.90% at (460 nm) while the sample (J52) showed 18.88% at 350 nm and 21.33% at 460 nm, and the sample (J57) showed maximum values of 18.88% at 350 nm and 24.27% at 460 nm.…”

“…For alkyl-functionalized carbazole dye 48 , a clear distinction in the absorption peaks in two cases indicate a difference in the aggregative blue-shift in toluene due to J-aggregation and the red-shift in ACN due to H-aggregation. The higher affinity of the hydrophobic moiety due to toluene account for the difference [ 105 ].…”
