“…This result is not only consistent with Boto-García and Matías (2022) and Duro et al (2022) that find mixed support for the role of domestic tourism demand in creating regional resilience in regional tourism, but it provides a further explanation for their finding in the different demand composition of domestic and inbound tourists. In the case of Scotland for instance, we find that one pound spent by international tourists has a larger macroeconomic impact than one pound spent by domestic tourists because domestic spending has a higher import content.…”

“…Our focus on 2021 is to better understand the links between the evolution of COVID-19 policies in this period, which begins with the second national lockdown and evolves with changes in case numbers and the roll-out of the vaccine programme. Whilst our focus is on Scotland, we believe that the main lessons learned for this economy can be transferred to any region where domestic tourism demand is an important element of the tourism industry and can be used to further extend the micro literature on domestic tourism demand (Duro et al, 2022; Boto-García & Matías, 2022 ) by exploring the role of composition of demand by tourism categories and by adding a macroeconomic dimension. In addition, the method used here is directly applicable to other regions where the data is available.…”

“…For example, governmental response to COVID-19, including economic support, interventions and messaging directly affect hospitality businesses and their markets (Hoang et al , 2021). Boto-García and Mayor (2022), argue that epidemiology, pre-pandemic demand and price variations are also factors affecting resilience. Schwaiger et al (2022) stress that personal, regional and governmental levels of resilience actions are important.…”

“…In the same way that the term sustainability has been utilized by the academic community, the word elasticity has also been employed [34][35][36]. Elasticity is often used to describe an item that can return to its former shape or position after being bent, stretched, or otherwise deformed 2…”
