“…Bariatric surgery aims not only to achieve considerable, long-term weight loss but also to improve the course of obesity-related diseases such as T2DM, hypertension, dyslipidemia, obstructive sleep apnea. It also reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke and decreases overall mortality [75][76][77]. A meta-analysis conducted by Sutanto et al showed significant reduction in the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events in bariatric surgery group as compared to the no-surgery group (OR = 0.49; 95% CI 0.40-0.60; p < 0.00001; I2 = 93%) [78].…”

“…On logistic regression, an age of < 45 years, and a short duration of T2DM from diagnosis were found to be independent predictors of complete remission [ 23 ]. A retrospective analysis of 143 obese patients diagnosed with hypertension who underwent LSG showed 23% and 63% complete and partial remissions of hypertension, respectively, at 12 months [ 24 ]. In a recent meta-analysis by Han et al [ 25 ], both LSG and LRYGB are equivalent in overall T2DM resolution.…”

“…Improvement in hypertension was observed in 86% of patients with 23% of patients discontinuing the therapy one year after LSG in the study conducted by Diemieszczyk et al [45] Another study by Kaya et al [46] showed a significant decrease in blood pressure, heart rate and the levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol as early as six months after LSG.…”
