Does the Use of Clean or Sterile Dressing Technique Affect the Incidence of Wound Infection?

Abstract: Evidence indicates that the use of clean technique for acute wound care is a clinically effective intervention that does not affect the incidence of infection. There is no recommendation that can be made regarding type of dressing technique for a chronic wound due to the lack of evidence in the literature.

“…Orthopedic trauma is a common type of trauma in clinic, which includes not only bone trauma, but also skin, muscle and other soft tissue trauma injuries, such as no good treatment and nursing after trauma, or can cause a series of complications such as fever, infection, venous thrombosis, and even death. [16,17] VSD plays an important role in the treatment of orthopedic trauma infection, with the following advantages: [18] It can reduce the work intensity, thus preventing cross infection; Under negative pressure, it can suck out bacteria, accumulate blood and necrotic tissue, and avoid wound infection; It is beneficial to the growth of healthy granulation; Negative pressure is not conducive to the viability of bacteria. The application of VSD technology has expanded to a variety of wounds caused by trauma.…”

“…Regarding the control of clinical signs of wound infection, both formulations were effective, although in vitro studies only describe 10% papain as a bactericidal and bacteriostatic agent (Sibbald, Woo, Ayello, 2006). There is no consensus in application of a clean or sterile technique for wound care (acute and chronic) (Kent et al, 2018;Wound, Ostomy and type of clinical complications were observed during the applications, such as damage to the newly formed tissue, pain, bleeding or regression in evolution of the wound. Thus, the hydrogel was able to grant autonomy to the patients, enabling self-care, as they were able to change the daily dressings without the help of a health professional.…”
