“…Several latest studies have used bibliometric mapping to determine and analyze large amounts of information and identify patterns of research on a specific topic [63]. Through this type of analysis, it is possible to encompass the constantly growing body of knowledge and assess a particular research activity, its impact, and the links among articles, thus outlining the anatomy of the present knowledge in a research domain with regard to a particular topic [64]. The bibliometric analysis examines the bibliographic data quantitatively, thus offering an overview of some research fields in accordance with adequate indicators, whereas through some other methods, such as a systematic literature review, the most relevant articles may be selected and analyzed more closely [65].…”

Nisa et al [ 16 ] examined the effects of competition on microfinance institutions and Ribeiro et al [ 17 ] examined whether microfinance promotes the development of its clients. The current research consolidates all studies on microfinance research for SMEs and microfinance institutions and suggests the likely future research direction.…”

“…The relevance of the microcredit topic in the past decade can be found in several publications such as Aitken ( 2013 ), Mahmood and Mohd Rosli ( 2013 ), and more specifically in Ribeiro et al. ( 2022 ), who conducted a scientometric analysis and a systematic literature review to identify the trends in microfinance outcomes from the perspective of more vulnerable people. Indeed, the potential recipients of these studies are policymakers, regulators, and academics to examine the requirements for microfinance and identify the most relevant areas of intervention.…”
