The HEXACO model divides the space of personality into six main dimensions: Honesty–Humility, Emotionality, eXtraversion, Agreeableness (vs. anger), Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience. Despite the lexical foundation, no validated adjective-based instruments are available yet. This contribution describes the newly developed HEXACO Adjective Scales (HAS), a 60 adjectives instrument to measure the six main personality dimensions. Study 1 ( N=368) proceeds to the first pruning of a large set of adjectives to identify potential markers. Study 2 ( N=811) delineates the final list of 60 adjectives and provides benchmarks for the new scales’ internal consistency, convergent/discriminant, and criterion validity. Study 3 ( N=411) confirms the HAS factorial structure, internal consistency, and criterion validity. The study also provides evidence of temporal stability (test–retest reliability) and convergence between raters (peer/self-evaluation). The HAS shows excellent psychometric properties and constitutes a valuable tool for assessing the HEXACO personality dimensions using adjectives.

Personality traits reliably predict political ideology and partisanship around the world, but studies investigating these relationships among Canadians used less-than-ideal measures of personality or did not examine the contribution of antagonistic personality traits (i.e., psychopathy, narcissism, Machiavellianism). We surveyed Canadians (N = 2,551) on their ideological self-placement and political partisanship using full measures of HEXACO traits and antagonistic traits. The findings for political ideology were mostly consistent with previous studies. Canadians who placed themselves on the ideological right were lower in openness to experience, honesty-humility, and impulsivity, but higher in extraversion, narcissism, and antisocial tendencies. Nuanced relationships emerged between personality and support for specific political parties (i.e., partisanship). The personality traits of Liberal, Conservative, and Green partisans were not always consistent with the personality traits of their party's ideological wing. Overall, we demonstrated a crucial distinction between ideology and partisanship and provided further evidence that personality matters for political choice in Canada. Public Significance StatementIndividual differences in personality are important for understanding a number of different political behaviours and attitudes. In this study, different personality profiles emerged between people who place themselves on either the left or right of the political spectrum and for people who support different major political parties. These results help us further understand Canada's political landscape.

ObjectiveThe aim of this study is to investigate the specific links that the Dark Triad traits have with subjective and psychological well‐being through a meta‐analysis of the existing literature.BackgroundOver the past few years, associations between the Dark Triad traits and well‐being have been a stimulating but understudied topic in personality research. Method: Cross‐sectional, correlational studies examining these relationships were searched in the PsycINFO, PubMed, and Web of Science databases. Meta‐analyses were performed at the dimension‐ and facet‐level to account for the multidimensional structure of the Dark Triad traits.ResultsA total of 55 studies were included (n = 26,252). In general, grandiose narcissism and boldness/dominance related to higher well‐being, while vulnerable narcissism, antagonism, disinhibition, and Machiavellianism related to lower levels of well‐being. Age and gender moderated few of these associations.ConclusionsWe recommend including multidimensional measures of the Dark Triad traits as an essential step to move the field forward.
