Does grafting provide tomato plants an advantage against H2O2 production under conditions of thermal shock?

Abstract: Non‐grafted tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum L. cv. Tmknvf2) and grafted tomato plants (L. esculentum L. cv. Tmknvf2 × L. esculentum L. cv. RX‐335) were grown for 30 days at three different temperatures (10°C, 25°C and 35°C). In the leaves of these plants, the enzymatic activities of SOD, GPX, CAT, APX, DHAR and GR were analysed, as were the concentrations of total H2O2, ascorbate and glutathione as well as foliar DW. Regardless of whether the plant was grafted or not, our results indicate that the therm… Show more

“…soil pathogens, such as fusarium wilt (Yetisir & Sari 2003, Yetisir et al 2007. However, over the years, other objectives have become important, such as resistance to low and high temperatures, tolerance to salinity and alkalinity, increase in the absorption of nutrients, efficiency in water use and improvement of fruit yield and quality (Cohen & Naor 2002, Rivero et al 2003, Colla et al 2010, Yetisir & Uygur 2010, Karaca et al 2012.…”

“…Ao que parece, sob altas concentrações de compostos fenólicos, as enzimas que oxidam compostos fenólicos, como polifenoloxidase, são inibidas em folhas, sendo corroborado por Rivero et al (2003) Na interação Bacillus sp. × estresse hídrico foi observado que na ausência de Bacillus sp.…”

“…For decades, the rootstock has been used to provide resistance to plants against rising and falling temperatures (Rivero et al, 2003;Venema et al, 2008), is a good tool used to facilitate the ansortion of available mineral nutrient of the soil solution (Leonardi and Giuffrida, 2006), increase levels and synthesis of hormones (Dong et al, 2008), strengthens the crops so that they are able to develop in salinity conditions (Colla et al, 2010), improves the processes of the plant that help to make the use of water more efficient (Rouphael et al, 2008a), decrease uptake of persistent organic pollutant (COPs) or toxic chemical resistant compounds from cultivable soils (Otani and Seike, 2007), helps tolerate overwatering and waterlogging (Yetisir et al, 2006), improves the caracteristics of the fruit that give it greater commercial value (Proietti et al, 2008), and minimize the toxic effects as a result of high concentrations of copper, cadmium and boron (Savvas et al, 2009;Arao et al, 2008). Nevertheless, there is little published scientific information worldwide about the efficiency of nitrogen in crops that have been grafted (Djidonou et al, 2013;Du et al, 2016).…”
