Recently, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly focusing on the implementation of green innovation, mainly due to customers’ increasing environmental consciousness. However, SMEs have not yet achieved any significant accomplishment. The lack of success in implementing green practices is due to various barriers. So, it is crucial to analyze and address these barriers prior to introducing green initiatives. This study prioritizes barriers and solutions to adopt green practices in the context of SMEs in Saudi Arabia. The study develops an integrated decision framework based on symmetry principles to identify main-barriers, sub-barriers, and strategies to overcome these barriers. Six main barriers, 24 sub-barriers, and 10 strategic solutions were identified through literature survey. Then, fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) was employed to evaluate main-barriers and sub-barriers. Later, fuzzy technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (FTOPSIS) methodology was used to rank strategies. Results of FAHP revealed that the political barrier category holds higher importance than other barriers. Results of FTOPSIS showed that the strategic solution ‘developing research practices to carryout green innovation in SMEs’ is more important in addressing green innovation barriers in SMEs.

In contemporary society, customers tend to spend money on goods and services they trust not only in terms of their quality but also because of their ethical production standards; therefore, thanks to integrating corporate social responsibility (CSR) into business activities, a company can ensure that their business success is in line with high moral principles and social expectations. Considering the paint business in the Vietnamese context, this study aims to investigate the effects of CSR related to the environmental management practices of companies in the paint industry. By analyzing data collected from 269 project managers and the purchasing managers of construction companies located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the findings show that CSR programs generally have a positive relationship with perceived reputation, organizational customer satisfaction, and environmental management practices (EMPs). Furthermore, the results also indicate that EMPs have no significant impact on organizational customer satisfaction, and perceived reputation is not associated with either customer satisfaction or commitment in the business-to-business (B2B) context. It is worth noting that the results provide some managerial recommendations for paint companies.

Developing integrated management systems using an AHP‐Fuzzy VIKOR approach

Integrated management systems (IMSs) involve a strategy to manage multiple systems while meeting the needs and expectations of stakeholders. There are various management standards used for the development of IMS. This study aims to undertake research focused on how to develop an IMS. In this context, management standards, including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI), consider alternatives and integration potential at multiple levels (i.e., strategic, tactical, and operational). We assess criteria including continuous improvement, systematic management, integration, organizational learning, standardization, and ability to cut through bureaucracy before a deeper dive into 28 subcriteria. We then use an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) approach to prioritize the main criteria and subcriteria. Next, we include the use of fuzzy VlseKriterijuska Optimizacija I Komoromisno Resenje (F‐VIKOR) methods to prioritize alternatives. The contributions of this study reveal that systematic management and standardization are the most influencing criteria among six guiding principles. The ISO standard and GRI are the most suitable standards for the development of dynamic IMS. This study is the first of its kind to prioritize guiding principles of IMS. The outcomes of this study will assist business managers, organizations, and policymakers in their decision making regarding management standards for IMS development as well as improve sustainable business practices. Researchers will find new IMS insights and constructs for further empirical investigation.
