DNA Microarrays

Abstract: Microarray technology provides new analytical devices that allow the parallel and simultaneous detection of several thousands of probes within one sample. Microarrays, sometimes called DNA chips, are widely used in gene-expression analysis, genotyping of individuals, analysis of point mutations and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) as well as other genomic or transcriptomic variations. In this chapter we give a survey of common microarray manufacturing, the selection of support material, immobilisation and… Show more

“…Once DNA polymorphism is identified, it may be determined ("genotyped") in the population sample by tens of genotyping techniques which exist in hundreds of modifications. Genotyping techniques have been repeatedly reviewed [9][10][11] . We, therefore, limit ourselves to examples of the "classical" genotyping techniques characterized by relatively low throughput.…”

“…The main advantage of the microarray method is the possibili ty of performing multiparametric analysis of a sample at minimum consumptions of the analyzed material and reagents. [3][4][5] Glass slides with modified surface for covalent immo bilization of probes are generally used as supports for microarrays. 3, 4 The operation of all bioarrays is based on the principle of molecular recognition, due to which spe cific biological complexes are formed in microarray cells.…”
