DNA barcoding of black cherry aphid Myzus cerasi (Fabricus, 1775) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) populations collected from Prunus avium and Prunus cerasus

Abstract: Sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene of one Greek and 25 Turkish Myzus cerasi (Fabricus) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) populations collected from Prunus avium and Prunus cerasus were analyzed. The partial coding region of COI studied is 605 bp for all the populations, from which 565 nucleotides were conserved, 40 were variable, 37 were singleton, and 3 were parsimony-informative. Four haplotypes were identified based on nucleotide substitutions and the mean of intraspecific divergence was ca… Show more

“…While insects have many beneficial roles in research (Takov et al 2020), medicine and agriculture (Demirözer et al 2020), the number of different plant-damaging insects is considerably high (Kanat et al 2005, Erkan 2018, Kuyulu andGenç 2020, İnal andKandemir 2020). Pine processionary moth, Thaumetopoea pityocampa (Den.…”

“…Although there are several beneficial roles of insects in research (as a model species) (Takov et al 2020), medical and agricultural fields (Demirözer et al 2020), several insects cause damage to plants growing and stored products in agriculture (Rees 2004;Kuyulu and Genç 2020;İnal and Kandemir 2020). The Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a major pest of stored products (McGaughey 1985).…”
