Increases in mean temperature affect the diversity and abundance of wild bees in agricultural ecosystems. Pollinator community composition is expected to change along an elevational gradient due to differences in the daily ambient temperature. This study investigated the diversity and abundance of wild bees in an agricultural area along an elevational gradient in Central Java, Indonesia. Wild bees were collected using a sweep net in 40 green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivation sampling locations at seven different elevations (8, 108, 224, 424, 644, 893, and 1017 m above sea level). Species diversity was determined using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index. We identified 932 individuals from 8 species of wild bee belonging to 3 families. The family Apidae was predominant, with 6 species, while only 1 species was found from each of Megachilidae and Halictidae. Across the study sites, diversity increased with increasing elevation (( ) = 1.4, ( ) = 0.25, and ( ) = 0.78 at low elevation to ( ) = 2.04, = 0.13, and = 0.96 at high elevation), and higher numbers of species were found at middle and high elevations. Species richness and abundance increased linearly with increasing elevation, and species diversity was highest at middle elevations.

Keberadaan serangga pada suatu habitat pertanian dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor salah satunya adalah habitat alami. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mempelajari pengaruh jarak habitat alami terhadap keanekaragaman dan kelimpahan serangga pengunjung bunga pada pertanaman mentimun. Penelitian dilakukan di lahan mentimun pada 12 lokasi yang terletak di Kabupaten Bogor, Cianjur, dan Sukabumi, Jawa Barat. Jarak habitat alami dengan lahan pertanian dikategorikan dalam dua kelompok, yaitu dekat dengan habitat alami (kurang dari 200 m) dan jauh dari habitat alami (lebih dari 1000 m). Pengamatan serangga pengunjung bunga mentimun dilakukan dengan cara menghitung jumlah serangga pengunjung bunga mentimun yang hinggap pada 100 unit bunga yang dilakukan pada empat transek berbeda. Penghitungan jumlah serangga pengunjung bunga dilakukan pada empat waktu yang berbeda dan pada hari yang berbeda. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan jarak habitat alami dengan lahan pertanian berpengaruh terhadap keanekaragaman spesies serangga pengunjung bunga, tetapi tidak berpengaruh terhadap kelimpahannya. Spesies serangga pengunjung bunga dominan yang ditemukan di pertanaman mentimun adalah Aphis sp., Tapinoma sp., dan Thrips parvispinus Karny, sedangkan serangga penyerbuk dominan yang ditemukan adalah Apis cerana Fabricius. Jarak habitat alami dari lahan pertanian berpengaruh terhadap keberadaan serangga pengunjung bunga khususnya serangga penyerbuk yang memiliki peran penting dalam meningkatkan hasil pertanian.

Brassica campestris, an important pollinator dependent oilseed crop of tropical and temperate regions, is often grown in a mixed cropping system in Himalayan hills. This system of multiple crops is considered pollinator friendly on account of diversity of crop species as well as support to the natural habitats. However, the level of such contribution is not well understood. In view of this gap, effects of flowering phenology on pollinator visitation were recorded in diverse cropping systems of B. campestris across an altitude range of 1300-2000 m.a.s.l. Datasets on plant density, number of inflorescence/plant, number of open flowers/plant and pollinator density were recorded. Results indicated that the resource abundance (density of plants and flowers) of mustard significantly favoured the visitation of pollinators. Thus, for optimized pollination, densely grown mustard is recommended in the traditional system.
