“…The scale indicates higher (red) and lower (blue) values of the species abundance and environmental variablesIn the present investigation, there was higher shrimp richness (A. intrinsecus, E. oplophoroides, L. paulensis, N. schmitti, P. paivai, and P. hemphilli) compared with the study byFransozo et al (2002), who registered only 3 species (E. oplophoroides, N. schmitti, and Palaemon pandaliformis[Stimpson, 1871]). Considering that the shrimp P. paivai lives in commensal association with cnidarian medusa(Baeza et al, 2017) and P. hemphilli has only been recorded in deep waters (~150 m;Christoffersen, 1982), this finding of both species can be attributed to accidental fishery. In this sense, the increased number of species registered herein could be a sign of increased ecological relevance of the Fortaleza Bay for decapod crustacean species establishment.…”
Several human actions can directly or indirectly affect marine environments (O'Hara et al., 2019). Among the anthropic impacts, we highlight bottom-trawling fishery, which is considered one of the main sources of environment perturbation in marine ecosystems (Fransozo et al., 2016;Simpson & Watling, 2006). The northern coast of São Paulo State (Brazil) is highly important for shrimp fishery due to the high abundance of Penaeidean shrimps. Thus, the low selectivity of fishing devices captures several non-target species, known
