“…1). The CO1 gene comprises three separate fragments, which include the prominent “Folmer region” of a 665 bp fragment located at the 5’ end of the CO1 gene (Folmer, Black, Hoeh, Lutz, & Vrijenhoek, 1994), a ~540 bp fragment at the 3’ end (Villalba, Lobo, Martin-Piera, & Zardoya, 2002), and a long fragment (~1,310 bp) that overlaps with the first two fragments (Sartsanga et al, 2018). Samples that contain more than one of these fragments were combined to form a single contig.…”

“…Most species in this genus are known to occupy mangroves, riparian, or coastal habitats (Ballantyne et al, 2011; Jusoh et al, 2018; Jusoh, Hashim, & Ibrahim, 2010). For instance, at least eight out of 12 species of Pteroptyx were recorded from mangroves throughout Malaysia (Jusoh et al, 2018), followed by four species in Thailand (Sartsanga, Swatdipong, & Sriboonlert, 2018), two to three species in Singapore (Chan, Ballantyne, & Goh, 2012), and one species in the Phillippines (Ballantyne et al, 2011; Jusoh et al, 2018). For centuries, species descriptions in the subfamily Luciolinae, which includes Pteroptyx , have been based purely on morphology.…”

“…Pteroptyx species have been identified in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, New Guinea, Hong Kong, Sulawesi, and Malaysia (Jusoh et al, 2018;Sartsanga et al, 2018;Ballantyne & Lambkin 2001;Ballantyne & McLean 1970). 13 Pteroptyx species have been identified in Malaysia; 9 of these are found in Peninsular Malaysia, where they are primarily found in the Sonneratia caseolaris mangrove (Norela et al, 2017;Shahara et al, 2017;Norela et al, 2016).…”

“…In addition, the overuse of pesticides from urban areas has led to the contamination of associated aquatic habitats. These anthropogenic pollution and disturbance have resulted in habitat degradation which reduced firefly survival and population size ( Sartsanga et al 2018 ). Despite attempts by the government and state to reduce impacts, the firefly population has not recovered.…”
