Distribution of rutin in fava d'anta (Dimorphandra mollis) seedlings under stress

Abstract: Fava d'anta is a tree rich in the flavonoid rutin; it is found mainly in the Brazilian savannah, which is called the cerrado and has a defined drought season. The distribution of rutin in fava d'anta seedlings was studied at different developmental stages and in an adult tree. In addition, the effects of flooding, drought and salinity on the content of this flavonoid in seedlings were investigated. Rutin was found in all of the analyzed fava d'anta plant parts, and its content was always higher than quercetin,… Show more

“…With the increasing age of trees, the intra-and interspecific competition increases, causing in the distribution pattern. In the period of tree growth, plenty of juveniles died, a small number of juveniles grew to adult trees that were balance during canopy tree stages, and the distribution of canopy trees was mainly subjected to the death of individuals (Clark et al 1993;Lucci & Mazzafera 2009). The change in the assemblage intensity is a survival strategy or adaptation mechanism of populations (Condit et al 2000).…”

“…In soybean, the flavonoids rutin and genistin were identified in several parts of the plant (Piubelli et al, 2005;Hoffmann-Campo et al, 2006;Lucci & Mazzafera, 2009).…”

“…For induction of salinity stress, the plants were watered three times a week with 500 mL of 75mM NaCl solution (Lucci and Mazzafera 2009). At the end of 9 d, the plants were collected and stored in a freezer at (80 o C. Water stress was gradually induced by supplying the pots with half the amount of water lost in the previous day.…”

“…This tissue contains a large quantity of rutin (Lucci and Mazzafera 2009). One-hundred grams of leaf buds were used as the starting material, and the initial purification procedure was similar to the procedure described above for the determination of rutin and isoquercitrin activities, i.e., precipitation with ammonium sulfate and desalting in a Sephadex G25 column (20 cm )3 cm).…”
