Distribution of Microperforate Tenuitellid Planktonic Foraminifers in Holes 747A and 749B, Kerguelen Plateau

Abstract: Late Eocene to Pleistocene planktonic foraminifers from Leg 120 Holes 747A and 749B on the Kerguelen Plateau were quantitatively analyzed. Microperforate tenuitellid forms dominate the Oligocene to middle Miocene, and 17 species (including the new species Tenuitella jamesi and Tenuitellinata selleyi) are recorded.A lineage zonation of tenuitellid foraminifers is proposed as an alternative scheme for refinement of the Oligocene-Miocene biostratigraphy in high latitudes. Progressive or abrupt alterations in morp… Show more

“…Of potential significance is the LAD of Tenuitellinata angustiumbilicata. However, at DSDP Site 747A, Li et al (1992) placed this event well below the FAD of Globorotalia zealandica, whereas at Tangakaka the taxa co-exist.…”

Li (1987) and Li et al (1992) pioneered the application of this group in Early Miocene biostratigraphy. Of potential significance is the LAD of Tenuitellinata angustiumbilicata.…”
