Distributed Estimation Techniques for Cyber-Physical Systems: A Systematic Review

Abstract: This paper undertakes a systematic review (SR) on distributed estimation techniques applied to cyber-physical systems (CPS). Even though SRs are not the common way to survey a theme in the control community, they provide a rigorous, robust and objective formula that should not be always ignored. The presented SR incorporates and adapts the guidelines recommended in other fields (mainly biosciences and computer sciences) to the field of automation and control and presents a brief description of the different ph… Show more

“…It is employed with exceptional results in many areas, including bio-science [3,4], computer science [5] and in recent years particularly in software engineering [6,7]. In particular, these last papers and the work proposed by [8] have been used as guides to undertake the systematic review in this work.…”

“…Digital transformation is built on cyber-physical systems, which are complex objects that are created by connecting different types of elements (IT, mechanical, etc.) and can interact with physical entities [1]. ey facilitate monitoring as well as interactions with other components and can be adapted to production processes [2].…”

“…In conclusion, by integrating with signal processing, wireless sensor network, machine learning, data-sparse algorithm, dynamic optimization, and control theory, investigating and developing distributed learning and distributed estimation over networks has become an important problem in the practical engineering application [46,47]. Furthermore, in the true environment of IWSN, distributed estimation algorithm could be able to deal with some problems of uncertainty phenomenon, which mainly includes the dynamic change of topological structure, quantization errors, communication link failure, packet losses, serious distortion of communication channel, and inter-symbol interference (ISI) [48,49].…”
