Distributed Dynamic Economic Dispatch of an Isolated AC/DC Hybrid Microgrid Based on a Finite-Step Consensus Algorithm

Abstract: The AC/DC hybrid microgrid is the main trend of microgrids’ development, and the dynamic economic dispatch is regarded as an important way to ensure the economic and safe operation of a microgrid system. In this paper, a dynamic economic dispatch model of the isolated AC/DC hybrid microgrid is developed with the objective of minimizing the daily operation cost of controllable units. Furthermore, a distributed algorithm based on the finite-step consensus algorithm is proposed, in which the incremental cost of e… Show more

“…Remark 2. The main difference between this paper and the existing results [39,40,42] is that the hierarchical control thought is utilized in this paper. By the use hierarchical processing, the whole control strategy is divided into two parts, that is, the leadership layer control and the tracking layer control.…”

“…For discussing the economic operation of the hybrid AC/DC microgrid, a distributed control framework was proposed in Reference [40]. In References [41,42], a distributed economic dispatch method was developed based on the so-called finite-step consensus method, which could reach to the optimal solutions in finite steps. However, up to now, there are few results discussing hierarchical distributed strategy for the ED problem of the AC/DC hybrid microgrid.…”

“…The dispatch strategy has effect on the overall system cost and guides in designing a more economic and efficient system. In MGs, economic dispatch (ED) is used as a guideline to ensure economic and safe operation of the MG [16]. ED ensures the repletion of the demand at a reduced cost by scheduling the output of the predefined generation units and satisfying the system and all generation units' equality and inequality constraints [17].…”

“…Deterministic methods for ED problems are proposed in [23] but such approaches are not efficient for complex systems such as large-scale renewabledriven systems (e.g., battery charging and discharging scheduling, adjusting to uncertainty in solar and wind energy resources, generator back-up synchronization, considering dynamic loads), as they consider renewable sources as negative loads and they cannot take the uncertain character of the renewable energy sources into account [24]. In [16], a dynamic ED model was proposed for an AC/DC hybrid MG having a target of regular operating cost reduction.…”

“…Scholars have previously recommended using droop control, voltage regulation, and frequency response to improve microgrid stability [10][11][12][13][14]. For example, the author of [15] proposed self-learning fuzzy sliding mode control based on droop strategy to reduce bus voltage fluctuation and improve output voltage quality.…”
