Blue carbon is a term to underline coastal ecosystem such as mangrove, seagrass, and tidal marshes capability as carbon sequestration where the organic carbon that stored in coastal sediment is greater than the organic carbon in living biomass. This study analysed the variability of sediment carbon stock in seagrass ecosystem in Central Tapanuli, Indonesia. LOI method was used to determine the carbon stock. Regression analysis showed that depth, and dry bulk density strongly influence the sedimen carbon stock in seagrass ecosystem (R2 = 0.77 in Hajoran and R2 = 0.79 in Jago-jago) where the total organic carbon stock in upper layer and denser sediment was higher than the organic carbon stock in middle/bottom layer sediment. Moreover, sediment type also influenced the carbon stock where sediment with finer grain size (11.80 – 13.46 Mg C/ha) captured more organic carbon than sand (6.54 – 10.34 Mg C/ha). By knowing this capacity, monitoring and maintaining coastal sediment and vegetation should become priority to mitigate the climate change.

Most of the coastal areas of Aceh Besar are areas of accumulation of organic compounds, one of which is Organic Carbon (OC). The purpose of this study was to analyze the chemical content by looking vertically at the content of OC, soil pH and Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) on the coast of Aceh Besar District. Analysis of the OC content using the Walkley and Black method, while to analyze the Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) using the Titrimetric method. Especially for the analysis of soil pH, only use a pH meter. The results showed that each station had different levels of OC and carbonate. Generally, the presence of OC decreases with depth, while the carbonate content varies. Especially for soil pH, the pH is relative to the alkaline state for each depth. The range of OC content for all stations is 0.18 – 2.48%, Carbonate 5.36 – 13.27% and pH 6.37-8.73.Keywords:CoastalOrganic CarbonCarbonateSoil pH

Anthropogenic activities in the coastal waters of Bengkalis Island, Riau Province are thought to have increased due to human activities (settlements, ports, agriculture, households and industry). This caused an increase in organic matter in water and sediment in coastal waters. The content of organic matter in water and sediment can be used as an indicator of the quality of coastal waters. The research aimed to analyze the content of organic matter in water and sediment in the coastal waters of Bengkalis Island. The used purposive sampling. The research was carried out in April – July 2021, consisting of 4 research stations and each station consisted of 3 sampling points. Sampling was carried out in the intertidal zone in the north and south of Bengkalis Island, namely station I (Air Putih Village), Station II (Jangkang Village), station III (Selat Baru Village) and station IV (Liong Estuary). The results of the analysis of organic matter content in seawater ranged from 32.39-34.89 mg/l, the highest was at station I and the lowest was at station II. The results of the analysis of organic matter content in sediment of Bengkalis Island ranged from 0.01-0.31%, the highest was at station I and the lowest was at station II. A simple linear regression test showed that the relationship between the organic matter content of seawater and sediments in the coastal waters of Bengkalis Island was classified as a strong relationship with a correlation coefficient (r) 0.720 and a coefficient of determination (R2) 0.518. The results also show that the coastal waters of Bengkalis Island have a type of sediment fraction which is dominated by sandy mud.
