Distribuição geográfica do complexo cortelezzii (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae) no Brasil

Abstract: -There are nearly 500 species of sandfl ies in Americas, 30 of which are vectors of leishmaniasis. Evandromyia cortelezzii (Brèthes), E. sallesi (Galvão & Coutinho) and E. corumbaensis (Galati et al) comprise the cortelezzii complex. These species are morphologically similar and many times misidentifi ed. Due to the epidemiological importance recently attributed to this complex, a detailed study was carried out in order to correct wrongful information due to their misidentifi cation, and update their geograph… Show more

“…cortelezzii , demonstrating its omission from the lists of species in several states due Ev. sallesi , which has more restricted distribution than the one quoted in the literature [7]. Thus, we do not suggest the use of geographic distribution to identify the species of this complex, but we can suggest the observation of its occurrence in caves, beyond the morphological characteristics, since the new species had their captures practically restricted to inside the cave studied, showing preference for this environment.…”

“…(Bar.) cortelezzii or Evandromyia (Barretomyia) sallesi, due to the absence of the male from these species in the same ecotopes (AND-3 and IS-7) [34]. Thus, these specimens were considered as Ev.…”

“…Em outro estudo realizado em Salvador, Bahia, também foi encontrada E. cortelezzii, e os autores discutiram sobre a necessidade de estudos que elucidem a possível participação das espécies do gênero Evandromyia na epidemiologia da LV. 16 Em estudo realizado sobre a distribuição geográfica dessa espécie no Brasil, é relatado que, no Nordeste do Brasil, só foi encontrada nos Estados do Ceará e da Bahia, 17 o que sugere a importância do achado no presente estudo.…”
