Dissipation and Memory Capacity in the Quantum Brain Model

Abstract: The quantum model of the brain proposed by Ricciardi and Umezawa is extended to dissipative dynamics in order to study the problem of memory capacity. It is shown that infinitely many vacua are accessible to memory printing in a way that in sequential information recording the storage of a new information does not destroy the previously stored ones, thus allowing a huge memory capacity. The mechanism of information printing is shown to induce breakdown of time-reversal symmetry. Thermal properties of the memor… Show more

“…Interesting photonic, dielectric, and phonon phenomena are expected from molecular compasses arrays (13). These include addressable ferroelectric and antiferroelectric phases, polar rotary phonons that propagate at velocities slower than the typical speed of sound, and NambuGoldstone dipole-wave quanta, which have been suggested as potential carriers of ordering information in quantum models of the brain (24).…”

“…The ontological significance of the proposal lies in the primacy of duality, a new conception of duality sharply distinguished from the classical dualism. Here the duality is that of a system in which brain is opened to external world (process of dissipation) [48] [87]. The ontological bonus of this new duality is its between: ground is between-two.…”

“…The formulation of quantum brain functioning offered by Vitiello (2006a, 2006b) is primarily based in the early quantum field theoretical proposals of Ricciardi and Umezawa (1967) (Vitiello 1995(Vitiello , 2001). Vitiello (2001Vitiello ( , 2003Vitiello ( , 2004 has suggested a quantum theory of intentionality based in thermofield dynamics (Vitiello 1995 there is an infinite memory for symmetry-breaking input available without overprinting (Vitiello 1995).…”
