“…From a queer theory perspective, the idea of introducing lived “queer” experiences into psychology training can be seen as an active attempt to breakdown or deconstruct the dominant cisnormative medicalized discourse that frame transgender people within psychological practice (Boe et al, 2020; Butler, 1999; Jagose, 1996). Boe and colleagues (2020) argued that Western cultures (e.g., Australia) typically operate within a binary gender system, those who do not fit inside this “box” tend to be pathologized and medicalized due to their positioning as “wrong” by this Western cisnormative lens. Thus, by incorporating transgender experiences and real-life case studies into training, the cisnormative medicalized framework can be exposed and challenged, paving the way for a “queering” of knowledge and practice within psychology training (Jagose, 1996).…”

“…Intersectionality-informed research practices hold enormous potential for making trans women visible in health research by paying attention to the heterogeneity of identity experience (Koyama, 2000;Boe et al, 2020). First, an intersectionality-informed approach in public health is important for examining the speci cities of the social location of trans women in health systems, enabling the development of new trans-centric theoretical concepts that allow scholars and practitioners to understand the structural determinants that engender unique forms of oppression for trans women in healthcare (Baeur, 2014).…”
