“…The DHPMS has three key advantages over the DHT. Firstly, it is sig- Figure 1-10: Digital Hydraulic Power Management System (modified from [28] nificantly more compact as the ratio of flow to total volume is much better for a pump than for a cylinder. Secondly, the DHPMS can be achieved using offthe-shelf components [14].…”

“…Further research into the DHPMS found that when connected directly to a double acting cylinder on an excavator arm a position accuracy of 2mm was achievable regardless of the load on the arm, though this became more difficult at low velocities. It was also suggested that the efficiency could be further improved by using leak-free control valves and by increasing the number of pistons in the unit, whilst reducing the volume of each cylinder and by adding accumulators for energy recovery [28]. Currently no valves exist that are able to meet the optimal requirements of the DHPMS.…”

“…hydro-static transmission systems, direct cylinder motion control (Heikkila, 2016) and energy-storage systems in hybrid vehicles (Taylor et al, 2015). For lowspeed applications of DDMs, such as hydraulic winches (Nordaas et al, 2017), the valves do not require to be as fast and commercial valves meeting the requirements do exist.…”

“…Due to its capabilities, the hydraulic system has been used in many applications such as power system [4], braking systems [5], manufacturing system [6], flight simulation [7,8], and cranes [9][10][11]. The low input power is converted into a high torque movement that used to control hydraulic applications.…”
