Disease activity as a risk factor for myocardial infarction in rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract: Patients with RA who developed MI had more classical risk factors but not higher disease activity over time than control patients with RA. Low levels of inflammation may be sufficient for accelerated atherogenesis and an excess risk of cardiovascular disease in RA.

“…After an adjustment for age and sex, smoking was shown to be correlated with a more serious coronary arterial classification. In a large study performed on patients who had experienced a myocardial infarction (MI) for the first time and those who had not experienced an MI after the diagnosis of RA, the patients who had experienced MI were shown to exhibit an increased serum level of cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol compared to those who had not experienced an MI (15)(16)(17). These undesirable lipid changes were thought to have emerged at least 10 years before the onset of RA.…”

“…Результаты исследований типа случай-контроль [84][85][86]88] указывают на отсутствие снижения риска ИМ и инсульта у больных РА, получающих МТ. В одном из этих исследований [84] установлено влияние степени ак-тивности РА на риск развития ИМ, не связанное с при-менением МТ.…”
