Este estudio recrea parcialmente el desarrollo del movimiento de la Nueva Canción Peruana, en algunos casos relacionados con el Taller de la Canción Popular de la Escuela Nacional de Música (1974-1979). Describe y analiza las condiciones, contenidos y resultados de la adaptación del modelo provisto por la Nueva Canción Chilena, tanto en relación con la autocrítica interior del movimiento peruano como a sus críticos. La situación definió una serie de problemas de índole nacional y popular que involucraron a la política cultural del Gobierno Revolucionario de las Fuerzas Armadas, el horizonte estético de los talleristas, la organización misma del folklore en la ciudad de Lima, la evolución de la izquierda y las funciones estéticas, sociales y políticas de la canción comprometida.
