Direct voltage control of stand‐alone DFIG under asymmetric loads based on non‐singular terminal sliding mode control and improved extended state observer

Abstract: This study investigates direct voltage control of stand-alone doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) system subject to asymmetric loads. An improved voltage regulator is designed based on non-singular terminal sliding mode control and an improved extended state observer (ESO). Due to the salient features of the improved ESO, the rotor current transducer is not required and the sinusoidal fluctuation in the sliding surface caused by asymmetric loads is eliminated. As a result, satisfactory balanced stator voltag… Show more

“…Therefore, disturbance compensator/observer/estimator based control design can be of great help for improving the robustness of the control system if parameter variation and external disturbances exist [29][30][31]. Sliding mode disturbance observers/compensators/estimators due to their robustness are very favourable [32][33][34][35]. These solutions can be particularly interesting for voltage unbalanced application, but the stability of control design is often not easy to prove.…”

“…However, no rules are presented for tuning of the integrator gain. In [29], a non-singular sliding mode controller with enhanced extended state observer is presented for a standalone DFIG. However, several gains need to be tuned.…”

“…When several researchers are attracted by wind systems operating in grid-connected mode (Bhawalkar et al, 2019, Gannoun et al, 2020Ghodbane-Cherif et al, 2019;Simon et al, 2019), islanded mode draws the attention of others (Maciejewski and Iwanski, 2020;Skander-Mustapha et al, 2016;Zeyu and Zhen, 2018). DFIG grid-connected applications are generally wind plant, whereas off-grid DFIG wind systems are especially suitable for small spread islands, powering telecommunication repeater stations or water irrigation systems (Guo et al, 2019(Guo et al, , 2020aRafiee et al, 2019).…”
