Direct Polarimetric Image Sensor and Wide Spectral Response Based on Quasi‐1D Sb2S3 Nanowire

Abstract: Polarized photodetectors with wide spectral detection and ultra‐fast photoresponses based on anisotropic semiconductors have potential applications in military and civilian fields and have been widely studied in recent years. The dual advantages of low‐symmetry crystal structure and special electronic band‐structure make Sb2S3 the perfect choice for polarized photodetection. In this work, the optical, vibrational, and optoelectronic anisotropy of the high‐quality orthorhombic Sb2S3 nanowires are systematically… Show more

“…Recently, some low‐dimensional materials with intrinsic in‐plane anisotropy structure exhibit great potential to realize direct polarized photodetection without the use of polarization filters. [ 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ] Nevertheless, there are three main hurdles for polarimetric image sensors to achieve high‐resolution imaging at multispectral. First, the controllable growth of large‐size low‐dimensional single crystals is still a challenge.…”

“…For single NW imaging, Wei et al recently prepared high-quality Sb 2 S 3 NWs with excellent performance on polarized photodetection. [119] A nonpolarized image sensor based on single NW Sb 2 S 3 photodetector is successfully realized by using "U""C""A""S" image (764 Â 20 pixels), and then the direct polarization imaging is further explored. The results show that when the polarization direction of the object is parallel to the c-axis of the crystal, the gray value of the image is the highest.…”

“…This promotes detection and imaging, and polarized light communication can thus be realized to achieve confidential information transmission 3 , 4 . Therefore, polarization-sensitive photodetectors are widely utilized in various fields and are of great importance for industrial applications, national security, biological diagnosis, and astronomy 5 , 6 . Such applications require high polarization sensitivity to determine the number of effectively-recognized polarization angles.…”

“…In recent years, the rise of low-dimensional (LD) materials has opened up another way for high-performance photodetection, which benefits from the limit size limitation in thickness and the strong light–matter interaction 7 11 . More importantly, some LD materials with intrinsic in-plane anisotropic structures can potentially detect polarized light without polarizers 5 , 12 , 13 . Therefore, it is feasible to develop advanced polarization detection devices using in-plane anisotropic semiconductors.…”
