RESUMO:O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da omissão de nutrientes nas mudas de Lippia sidoides Cham. (Verbenaceae) e seu possível efeito sobre os seus artrópodes, sendo os tratamentos: 1) testemunha; 2) completo 1 adubado com N, P, K, S, B, Cu, e Zn + calagem (C1); 3) completo 2: C1 sem calagem + Ca e Mg como sulfato (C2); 4) C1 sem calagem; 5) C1 sem N; 6) C1 sem P; 7) C1 sem K; 8) C1 sem S; 9) C1 sem B; 10) C1 sem Cu; 11) C1 sem Zn; 12) C2 sem Ca e 13) C2 sem Mg. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. O Tetranychus sp. (Acari: Tetranychidae) atacou mais os tratamentos 3, 6, 9 e 13 e os maiores danos nos tratamentos 6 e 13. A maior população de Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae) foi encontrada nos tratamentos 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 e 13, colonizando preferencialmente o tratamento 4. O Phenacoccus sp. (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) foi encontrado em maior número nos tratamentos 4 e 9 e Insignorthezia insignis (Browne) (Hemiptera: Ortheziidae) em 13. Foram mais notados adultos de Bemisa tabaci (Genn.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) nos tratamentos 5, 7, 8 e 13 e ninfas nos três últimos tratamentos. Em geral, os tratamentos 1, 5 e 10 são os menos atacados por artrópodes. Dirigir a pulverização, quando necessário, sempre para a face inferior da folha. The aim of this work was to evaluate nutrient omission effect on Lippia sidoides Cham. (Verbenacea) seedlings, as well as its possible effect on their arthropods. Treatments were: 1) control; 2) complete 1: fertilized with N, P, K, S, B, Cu, and Zn + lime (C1); 3) complete 2: C1 without lime + Ca and Mg as sulphate (C2); 4) C1 without lime; 5) C1 without N; 6) C1 without P; 7) C1 without K; 8) C1 without S; 9) C1 without B; 10) C1 without Cu; 11) C1 without Zn; 12) C2 without Ca; and 13) C2 without Mg. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replicates. Tetranychus sp. (Acari: Tetranychidae) predominantly attacked treatments 3, 6, 9 and 13, and the greatest damages were detected in treatments 6 and 13. The largest population of Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae) was observed in treatments 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 13, preferentially colonizing treatment 4. Phenacoccus sp. (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) was predominant in treatments 4 and 9, and Insignorthezia insignis (Browne) (Hemiptera: Ortheziidae), in treatment 13. Bemisia tabaci (Genn.) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) adults were mostly detected in treatments 5, 7, 8 and 13, whereas nymphs, in the last three treatments. In general, treatments 1, 5 and 10 are the least attacked by arthropods. When needed, pulverization must always be directed to the leaf lower surface.

ResumoOs fungos endofíticos possuem um papel importante na mediação das interações plantaherbívoros, planta-patógenos e planta-ambiente. Para compreender a interação entre os fungos endofíticos e Baccharis dracunculifolia (Asteraceae) e deste com os herbívoros, foram investigadas as seguintes hipóteses: (i) o número de espécies de endofíticos (riqueza) aumenta com a idade foliar; (ii) a riqueza de endofíticos nas folhas varia com a sazonalidade; (iii) a riqueza de endofíticos varia conforme o sexo do vegetal; (iv) há correlação negativa entre a riqueza de endofíticos e a riqueza de herbívoros; e (v) há correlação negativa entre a riqueza de endofíticos e a abundância de herbívoros. Para este estudo, folhas de B. dracunculifolia foram coletadas mensalmente na Estação Ecológica da UFMG, de outubro de 2006 a agosto de 2007. Ao todo, foram encontradas oito morfoespécies de endofíticos, um número baixo, quando comparado com os resultados obtidos em outro estudo, analisando a mesma espécie vegetal. As folhas maduras apresentaram maior riqueza, principalmente durante a estação chuvosa, mas não houve diferenças em relação à riqueza equivalente ao sexo. Observou-se, também, que a riqueza endofítica encontrada nas folhas não infl uenciou a riqueza e a abundância de herbívoros. Os resultados do estudo indicaram que o ambiente exerceu um papel fundamental na determinação da comunidade endofítica e nas interações Baccharis-herbívoros. AbstractEndophytic fungi have an important role in the mediation of the plant-herbivores, plantpathogens and plant-environment interaction. To understand the interaction between endophytic fungi and Baccharis dracunculifolia (Asteraceae) and these with the herbivores, the following hypotheses were investigated: (i) the number of endophytic morphospecies (richness) increases with leaf age; (ii) the richness of endophytes varies with seasonality; (iii) the richness of endophytes varies with the plant gender; (iv) there is negative correlation between the richness of endophytes and richness of herbivores; and (v) there is negative correlation between the richness of endophytes and abundance of herbivores. Monthly, the leaves of B. dracunculifolia were collected in Estação Ecológica da UFMG from October, 2006 to August, 2007. In total, we found eight endophytic morphospecies, a low number when compared to the results found in other study in the same plant species.

Nos poucos estudos publicados comparando óleos essenciais de espécimes femininos e masculinos de espécies Baccharis, fortes diferenças entre as composições de ambas as amostras foram sempre encontradas. Os experimentos realizados nesta pesquisa utilizam estratégias para minimizar a interferência de fatores genéticos e ecológicos. Os óleos essenciais das folhas de espécimes femininos e masculinos de cinco espécies Baccharis foram pesquisados com uso de um cromatógrafo gasoso acoplado a um espectrômetro de massas e a um detector de ionização de chama (CG-EM-DIC): B. caprariaefolia e B. dracunculifolia, já pesquisadas anteriormente com objetivos similares; e B. coridifolia, B. semiserrata var. elaegnoides e B. pentaptera, as duas últimas ainda não mencionadas na literatura química. Os resultados foram acompanhados por análise hierárquica de grupos, verificando-se a formação de grupos indicativos da grande similaridade entre óleos essenciais dos espécimes masculinos e femininos de todas as cinco espécies. O estudo reafirma o valor das observações de campo na pesquisa de produtos naturais, e aponta fatores genéticos e ecológicos como principais responsáveis por diferenças no metabolismo secundário das plantas estudadas.In the few studies published on essential oils from female and male specimens of Baccharis species, strong differences between the compositions of both samples were always found. The experiments conducted in this study make use of strategies to minimize the interference from genetic and environmental factors. Essential oils from leaves of female and male specimens of five Baccharis species were investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry plus flame ionization detector (GC-MS-FID): B. caprariaefolia and B. dracunculifolia, which have been previously studied with similar aims; and B. coridifolia, B. semiserrata var. elaegnoides and B. pentaptera, the latter two not yet mentioned in the literature. The results were followed by hierarchical cluster analysis, verifying the formation of groups indicative of the great similarity of essential oils from male and female specimens of all five species. The study reinforces the value of field observation in natural product research and points genetic and ecological factors as main responsible for differences in the secondary metabolites of the studied plants.Keywords: Baccharis species, male and female specimens, essential oils J.
