Diorganotin dihalide complexes ofN-bidentate ligands: crystal structures of diethyldibromo- and dibutyldichloro[bis(1-methyl-2-imidazolylthio)methane]tin(IV)

Abstract: The compounds [SnR2X2(bmimt)] (R = Me, Et, Bu; X = Cl, Br; bmimt = bis(1‐methyl‐2‐imidazolylthio)methane) have been prepared and characterized by conductivity measurements and by IR, Raman, mass, Mössbauer and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The structures of the diethyldibromo‐ and dibutyldichlorotin(IV) derivatives were determined by X‐ray crystallography. The crystals consist of two slightly different types of discrete [SnR2X2(bmimt)] unit with the metal atom octahedrally coordinated to the two halogen atoms, two alky… Show more

“…The increasing industrial use of organotin(IV) compounds containing an Sn-S bond, especially as stabilizers of polyvinyl chlorides (Tarassoli et al, 2006), and the recognition of the importance of this bond for the biological properties of organotin compounds (Barbieri et al, 1989), have together spurred the study of thiolates (Casas et al, 1997(Casas et al, , 1999. We present here the crystal structure of the title compound, (I).…”

“…2), as a crystalline solid. The same compound was obtained using as starting material the neutral bis(1-methyl-2-imidazolylthio)methane ligand, [(S-tim) 2 CH 2 ], and the crystal structure of compound 7 has been already reported by Casas et al [44].…”

“…These ligands are able to coordinate by both S and the neighbouring N atom, and hence to form stable chelate rings of five or more atoms [35][36][37][38][39][40][41]. In particular, Gardinier [42,43] and Casas [44] have recently reported the synthesis, the analytic, spectroscopic and structural characterization of the bis(thioimidazolyl)methane family of compounds. These compounds are attractive owing to both their potential biomedical applications [45,46] and their potential utility in fundamental coordination chemistry [44,[47][48][49][50][51].…”

“…These ligands are able to coordination by both S and the neighbouring N atom, and hence to the formation of stable chelate rings of five or more atoms [10][11][12][13]. In particular the bis(2-pyridylthio)methane has a rich coordination chemistry as recently reported for Zn(II), Hg(II), Cu(I), Ag(I) [14], Cd(II) [15] and Cu(II) [16] complexes.…”
