Dimensions of neurobehavioral dysfunction.

Abstract: Principal-components analysis of 44 Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory items previously identified as neurologic-related was performed using the protocols of a heterogeneous group of 115 patients with verified neurologic disorders. Four principal factors, accounting for 34% of the total variance, were extracted. The 1st factor was composed of items primarily tapping complaints of attention, concentration, or memory. It?ms primarily tapping neurologic or somatic complaints, various aspects of emotional… Show more

“…The neurocorrection approach has been applied in a number of studies (Alfano, Finlayson, Stearns, & MacLennan, 1991; Alfano, Finlayson, Stearns, & Neilson, 1990; Alfano, Paniak, & Finlayson, 1992; Edwards, Weissman, & Morrison, 1993; Gass, 1991). Alfano and colleagues, for example, developed their Neurobehavioral Scale from the MMPI by first establishing content validity (items were judged neurologic in content by a group of medical specialists/judges).…”

“…At the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Dennis Alfano has worked extensively in the area of traumatic brain injury. Together with Chris Paniak and Alan Finlayson, he has examined the neurological content of MMPI profiles and proposed a corrective factor that could address a neurologic content bias in the instrument when used in a closed-head injury population (Alfano, Finlayson, Stearns, & MacLennan, 1991; Alfano, Finlayson, Stearns, & Neilson, 1990; Alfano, Neilson, Paniak, & Finlayson, 1992; Alfano, Paniak, & Finlayson, 1993; Hamilton, Finlayson, & Alfano, 1995). Alfano's second major area of research has focused on psychosocial adjustment following traumatic brain injury for both survivors and their family members (Alfano, Neilson, & Fink, 1993, 1994; Pelletier, Alfano, & Fink, 1994).…”
