Digital transformations in manufacturing systems confer advantages for enhancing competitiveness and ensuring the survival of companies by reducing operating costs, improving quality, and fostering innovation, falling within the overarching umbrella of Industry 4.0. This study aims to provide a framework for the integration of smart statistical digital systems into existing manufacturing control systems, exemplified with guidelines to transform an existent statistical process control into a smart statistical process control. Employing the design science research method, the research techniques include a literature review and interviews with experts who critically evaluated the proposed framework. The primary contribution lies in a set of general-purpose guidelines tailored to assist practitioners in manufacturing systems with the implementation of digital, smart technologies aligned with the principles of Industry 4.0. The resulting guidelines specifically target existing manufacturing plants seeking to adopt new technologies to maintain competitiveness. The main implication of the study is that practitioners can utilize the guidelines as a roadmap for the ongoing development and implementation of project management. Furthermore, the study paves the way for open innovation initiatives by breaking down the project into defined steps and encouraging individual or collective open contributions, which consolidates the practice of open innovation in manufacturing systems.

In business, understanding consumers is paramount. Digital Twins technology provides virtual representations of consumers and real-time insights. This study evaluates the implementation of Digital Twins in drive-thru services, focusing on efficiency and user experience. A survey was conducted with 2000 drive-thru consumers in the US and analyzed using SEM-PLS. The findings of this study indicate the significance of Digital Twins in purchase accuracy, interactivity, and satisfaction. The importance of strategic implementation is highlighted to maximize benefits and offer a framework for secure implementation. Limitations of this research include geographical constraints of the respondents, data collection methods, and limitations in relevant literature due to the new nature of Digital Twins technology in the context of drive-thru services. Future research needs to explore cross-cultural comparative research, longitudinal studies, and mixed-methods approaches to further understand the impact of this technology.

In today’s dynamic business environment, comprehending consumer behavior stands as a pivotal factor for achieving success. However, traditional methods of gathering consumer insights often prove to be time-consuming, expensive, and limited in depth. Digital Twins technology emerges as a promising solution, offering virtual representations of consumers and real-time insights into their behaviors and preferences. This study, which has yielded promising results, investigates the implementation of Digital Twins in enhancing efficiency, performance, and user experience within drive-thru services, focusing on consumer perspectives. Additionally, it evaluates the technology’s impact on operational management and customer interactions while addressing data security and privacy concerns. Employing a quantitative approach, the study surveys 2000 drive-thru consumers in the United States through purposive sampling. Data collected covers consumer satisfaction, perceptions of Digital Twins’ effectiveness, and drive-thru service preferences, analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS). Findings indicate the significant impacts of Digital Twins on drive-thru services, including purchase accuracy, interactivity, process efficiency, and overall customer satisfaction. Reliability and validity tests affirm the robustness of the research model. This research contributes to understanding Digital Twins technology’s potential benefits and challenges in drive-thru services. It underscores the importance of strategic approaches to maximize its advantages across industries. Furthermore, it offers a comprehensive framework for securely and effectively implementing Digital Twins, considering broader aspects beyond technical considerations.
